The Amazing Kukulkan Nights

Chichen Itza is one of the main archaeological sites of the Mayan Culture, located in the Yucatan peninsula just a couple of hours from the Solaris Resorts in Cancun. The pre-Hispanic city of Chichén Itzá was a ceremonial center for many years and the most outstanding capital of the Mayan Culture. It passed through different periods and influences but its main apogee was in the late classical period (800-1100 AD)

Chichen Itzá

Due to its great importance, it is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and in 2007 the Temple of Kukulkan, the highest and most representative pyramid of Chichén Itzá, was recognized as one of the seven wonders of the modern world. The Kukulkán Temple worships the god Kukulkán that in Maya means feather Serpent, therefore, you can see decorations in the form of a snake and at the equinoxes and solstices of each year there is an exciting light phenomenon that shows us the enormous astronomical and mathematical knowledge of the Mayans who managed to design the pyramid in a certain way that the sunlight in those days simulates the shape of the feathered serpent sliding down the pyramid. An incredible show that leaves you breathless!

The visiting hours of this majestic archaeological site are from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon so you can spend the whole day there. The entrance has a cost of 64 pesos (around 3 US dollars) for adults and it is free for children under 13, so the little ones won’t have an excuse to miss the trip. Teachers, students and seniors with valid credentials are also free, as well as national and local tourists on Sundays.
