We have baby turtles in Royal Solaris Cancún, and thanks to the prevention team, we have been able to bring more than 300 turtles safely to the sea, and we hope that in these next days, about 1000 more will be born.
The first turtle arrived in May, and until this date, there have been 60 more to spawn on the hotel beach. That is why the prevention´s team work is of highly important, every night starting at 9 o'clock they take care of the turtles, so they can feel safe to spawn, they do not allow anyone to approach them while they are doing it, they can not be shielded with flashlights nor to take pictures with flash, since this could scare them and make them go away. They take an hour or two to prepare the nest ,and then begin to deposit the eggs, the prevention department moves the eggs carefully, to put them on safe nests, that are protected by a fence, there they mark how many eggs are in each nest and the date, to know more or less when they will be born. It takes from 45 to 50 days for the turtles to hatch, and once they are born, the Resort has a special time to Free the turtles back into the sea: 8:30 at night, and as always our guest are an important part of this, we have guests who wish luck to the little ones, or others that give them a kiss goodbye, while leaving them carefully on the sea shore.
Turtles travel thousands of miles in the sea, and always return to the place where they were born to lay their eggs. That is why it is so important if you cross paths with one, not to light them with flashlights or cellphone lights, so they can peacefully lay their Eggs. or in the case of the little ones to help them reach the shore safely. Three species of turtles arrive to Cancun: the White, the Carey and the Caguama. If you come to one of the Solaris Resorts in Cancun in the next months, you will have the opportunity to participate in this beautiful experience, the baby turtles will thank you.
